SAP AI Strategy
SAP has developed the Business Technology Platform as middleware and Joule as a copilot for its enterprise software suite. These powerful tools are built to work with leading providers of AI technology such as OpenAI, DataBricks, Microsoft and more. SAP is building powerful agents that know S/4 HANA, SAP Data Cloud and the full stack of SAP, to power the most complex automations.
In the small to mid-market space, the Business Technology Platform is available, however; SAP is also partnering with third party products for “rightsized“ solutions. For example,
- MyWave is an agentic AI platform with built in connectors for both SAP Business One and SAP Business ByDesign.
- Major SAP cloud service providers are supporting MyWave and are building their own private turnkey AI solutions. See links below:
In the SMB space, partners are leading the Agentic AI charge. Using the available tools, partners have developed solutions for:
- Intelligent Automation: Acumatica AI Agents automate routine tasks, allowing employees to focus on more strategic activities. This automation covers areas such as data entry, invoice processing, and financial reporting.
- Natural Language Processing (NLP): The AI Agents utilize NLP with chatbots to answer support questions from help files, SAP knowledgebases and local custom procedures.
- Query Generation: With natural language prompts, the AI Agents can also develop SAP queries which are the utilized for reports, approvals, alerts and user defined values.
AI in Microsoft Business Central
Microsoft with its partnership with Open AI and Azure AI stack is integrating Agentic AI in all products. One of the most significant benefits of Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central (BC) is its seamless integration with other Microsoft products such as Office 365, Teams, SharePoint, and Power BI. Microsoft Copilot acts as an AI-powered assistant that helps users automate repetitive tasks, gain real-time insights, and make informed decisions. Copilot is seamlessly integrated into the Microsoft BC suite, enhancing the overall functionality and user experience of the ERP system.
Microsoft embeds and leverages AI to automate repetitive tasks, enhance decision-making, and improve overall business efficiency. By incorporating pre-packaged, AI-powered features such as predictive analytics, intelligent forecasting, and automated customer service, Microsoft Business Central enables businesses to operate more effectively and respond swiftly to market changes.
Additional Microsoft tools allow developers to build more complex AI assistants and agents.
- Azure AI offers a range of services, including machine learning, cognitive services, and bot services, enabling businesses to build and deploy AI solutions tailored to their needs.
- Power BI allows businesses to visualize data, create interactive reports, and gain deeper insights into their operations. Businesses can leverage AI-driven analytics to improve decision-making and drive continuous improvement.
- GitHub Copilot and Microsoft Sales Copilot provide AI-powered code suggestions and sales insights, respectively, helping businesses streamline their workflows and improve productivity.
Separating the Hype from Current Benefits
Each of the software companies have “out-of-the-box” AI tools. However, these tools are still very basic and do not live up to they AI hype. Some of the most mature solutions include:
- Document recognition agents for purchase orders and accounts payable invoices.
- Support co-pilots with natural language processing.
- Intelligent automations like data enhancement agents that update master data from authoritative sources.
