Although I was unable to attend the Acumatica 2024 Summit, I virtually attended the two keynote sessions to gain an understanding of the upcoming releases and future plans for Acumatica – “The Cloud ERP.” The event featured over plenty of customer attendees, two rooms packed with sponsors and plenty of reselling partners and Acumatica employees.
Celebrating Success and Looking Forward
The first day keynote session was more of a pep rally than content filled. It featured customer and partner recognitions, bold statements of success, and the unveiling of a new logo. Overall it appears that Acumatica really invests time in working with customers, listening to their customer advisory board and focusing on industries. Acumatica 2023 has four specific industry editions:
In 2024, Acumatica will introduce a Professional Services edition. I will be interested in seeing if it handles subscription billing, receivables, and payables.
Specific and Cross Industry Focus
Although Acumatica has organized with industry product managers, they clearly understand, acknowledge and focus on businesses which blur the lines.
- Distributors who assemble products and sell direct.
- Manufacturers who install and service products.
- Manufacturers and Distributors who use Amazon and other ecommerce platforms.
Like most publishers, Acumatica has struggled with compatibility of various third-party developers as it built out industry and cross industry functionality. However, Acumatica appears to have a clear focus on providing both core capabilities and cross industry functions which improve the customer experience and product capability.
Acumatica 2024 Construction
Construction appears to be a huge focus for Acumatica. With four specific sub specializations and a ton of new features coming out, Acumatica Construction could become a major player. A demonstration of the upcoming visual scheduler and existing low code/no code workflow features were quite impressive.
Acumatica 2024 Retail
Although not demonstrated, the Retail Product Manager Josh Fischer talked about new Fulfilled by Amazon (FBA) technology being released in version 2024 R1. After beta testing by 30 customers the new FBA technology will streamline inventory management and Amazon service charge processing dramatically. The live demonstration of the Acumatica Payments functionality appeared powerful and removes one more third party product requirement for retailers and distributors.
Future Proof ERP
Like many publishers, Acumatica makes many bold statements about its technology. When discussing the future technology direction, Mike Shchelkonogov, Chief Technology Officer provided an impressive demonstration of the new user interface while stressing backwards compatibility with customizations and third party developers.
In addition to the omnipresent core performance and technology requirements, Acumatica appears focused on the key technological advances required to maintain a leadership position in mid-market ERP software. The Low Code – No Code personalization is key to usability and being AI ready are the new requirements.
Acumatica 2024 is a Major Player
Over the years I have seen many products come to market. Like most business management software, the first 5 years are rough. It is hard to match the feature function of legacy software with new products and it takes time to work out the bugs inherent in software development. In the past 10 years, since Acumatica became headquartered in Kirkland Washington, I have seen it grow in all areas. Customer growth, usability, features and technology have all matured to the point where Acumatica is one of the products we look at in a majority of Systems Selection engagements.
